At Luca Faloni, we use some of the finest leather in Italy, including full-grain vegetable tanned leather from Santa Croce. For centuries this small town in Tuscany has been renowned for its leather craftsmanship. The artisanal excellence of our leather accessories is the result of the traditional knowledge of our craftsmen, passed on from one generation to the next, in an unbroken chain of uncompromising Italian quality.
All of our holdalls are handcrafted by artisans in Florence – a center of fine leatherwork since the 13th century and home to the prestigious Italian School of Leather. Besides style and functionality, the single most important feature in creating a unique travel bag is choosing the finest quality leather. The leather should be durable and also age beautifully and gracefully, carrying the memories of all the travels and adventures over the years. That is why we use vegetable tanned full grain leather from the oldest tanneries in Santa Croce sull Arno.
Our belts are crafted the old way by hand in Bergamo, which has a storied history in small leather goods. Our woven suede belts are ideal for casual wear, but if you’re more classic when it comes to your clothing, our equally well-made calf leather and nubuck styles are dependable options, while our clever reversible belt offers twice the styling options, making it a smart choice for travel.
The art of fine glove making is a field of study in itself. Achieving the perfect fit, mastering an unobtrusive stitching technique and having a well-made lining are all key factors when designing a sheathe for the hand. Our gloves are hand stitched from fine Italian nubuck – a leather that’s been delicately buffed to give it a supple, velvet-like texture that feels incredibly soft against the skin and lined with pure cashmere which regulates body temperature.
Like our travel bags, our wallets are handmade in Florence from leather sourced from the prestigious tanneries of Santa Croce sull'Arno. This is the finest full-grain leather – ‘pieno fiore’ – as the Tuscans call it, tanned solely with vegetable dye, which preserves the natural character of the leather and eliminates the use of toxic chemicals dyes which inferior tanneries often use. The end result is a highly durable leather with a butter-soft texture that will take on a rich, seasoned patina with use, making it ideal for small leather goods.
