In Conversation: Reece Clarke, Principal Ballet Dancer

Reece Clarke describes his personal style as “casual elegance,” a reflection of his personality both on and off the stage. “I prioritise a blend of comfort and functionality, alongside an appreciation for quality craftsmanship,” he explains. Whether rehearsing for his latest role or attending a high-profile event, Reece will opt for clothes that feel good and allow ease of movement, but he also knows how to make a statement with the right pieces on special occasions.

Born and raised in Airdrie, Scotland, Reece grew up in a bustling household with his three older brothers. “Having four boys in one house was quite a lot of energy for my parents,” Reece recalls fondly. To manage that energy, his parents enrolled him and his brothers in every after-school activity available. It wasn’t long before ballet became the favoured pursuit in the Clarke household.

“We were so supported, even as young lads growing up in this small town,” Reece reminisces. His dance teachers stayed in close contact with his parents, recognising the potential of all the brothers. Eventually, they recommended the Clarke boys audition for the prestigious Royal Ballet School in London. Remarkably, each of the four brothers was accepted, making history as the first family to have all of its children go through the elite ballet training program.

“I remember going to watch my brothers perform internationally,” Reece says. “That really sparked something in me.” As his siblings shone on stages around the world, young Reece found himself inspired to follow in their footsteps. Today, the Recce Clarke name is known in ballet circles across the globe, his performances drawing critical acclaim for their artistry and technical brilliance.

Now, with 10 years of professional dance experience, Reece treasures every moment on stage. “The feeling that no two performances are ever the same is what makes live theatre so special,” he shares. “The emotions and things that happen on stage are so unique.”

As he continues to build on his already stellar career, Reece remains grounded in his roots, ever grateful for the support and inspiration that guided him from a small town in Scotland to grand stages worldwide.
