What is the best and most exciting project you have taken on?

I have been lucky enough to work on so many exciting projects over the years. When I was 27 years old, I had my first cover shoot with Oprah Winfrey. I was excited and nervous at the same time. The team was fantastic, and working with Oprah was amazing. She had great energy on set. Before I knew it, the project was over, but it will always be one project that stands out in my mind.

Another exciting project was my recent campaign with Ferrari for the North American launch of the Portofino M. I shot the stills for the campaign and directed the video. This was a two-part project.

First, shooting in Miami down to Florida Keys, and the second part was shot in Sedona, AZ. It was a jam-packed few days; starting before the sun came up and wrapping after dark. But this made it even more fun. It was nonstop beautiful scenery, amazing crews, and most of all, the perfection of the Ferrari Portofino M.

Is there a character you have worked with, or you have photographed that impressed you? And why?

I recently had the pleasure of working with David Beckham. David is an amazing talent. He knows exactly what he is looking for creatively. He has a perspective and I always appreciate that type of collaboration. When on set, he is extremely respectful to everyone around him. He really brings his all to every shoot.

What is the greatest challenge on a photographic set?

Every shoot is different. At times I might have a few days to shoot a campaign and sometimes are only a few hours. It might be raining or too sunny, but this is what keeps me on my toes and gets the adrenaline pumping. I find when I get to set and start shooting, everything fades away. I get into my zone and feel at ease, even when things might not be running perfectly.

Do you have a styling rule?

Be comfortable. If I leave the house in an uncomfortable outfit, or something I do not feel confident in, it will throw me off for the rest of the day.

What do you do when you need to feel inspired?

I pull inspiration from many different places. I look to nature and cityscapes, books by my favourite artists, and countless different films. Although sometimes, I might just throw my headphones on and go for a walk. I always have a notepad - jotting things down as they come to me. Perhaps a specific scene in a movie, or a street corner that would work perfectly as a location for a shoot. Even just a great conversation with like-minded people sparks unique inspiration.

What tradition do you look forward to most?

Anything that brings me together with my family. My family has always been my biggest support group and since moving to NYC, I cherish any moment I can get catching up with them. At the end of each summer, I always make my way back to Toronto, Canada for a couple weeks.

What are your 3 carry-on essentials?

My Beats wireless headphones, my camera kit (I never check it), and popcorn.

What destinations are on your bucket list and why?

This is a tough question. Although I have spent that past decade in so many beautiful places, the list is still very large. I always like to find destinations that are off the beaten path and that inspire me; whether it is the topography or the culture, or even the beautiful light. For example, in Istanbul, I remember the light there blew me away.

A few destinations I am looking forward to visiting are: New Zealand, South Africa, Norway, Switzerland and Morocco.

With more time on your hands, what would you do?

The more time I have, the more I try to better myself and my craft. Wellness has become an important part of my life; especially over the past 18 months. Eating clean, yoga, fitness, and really taking "personal time" has become so important. It helps me to reflect and reset. I also love to experiment with new photography and video techniques when I have the time. Although I am shooting a lot, I still love to work on personal projects.

How is your dressing style defined? Is there any style signifier you are known for?

I like to keep things simple, consistent and comfortable. I always go for a chino over denim. In the summer I am a fan of a well-cut black or white T-shirt and in fall/winter, I generally go for cashmere. My style does tend to lend itself best to where I am travelling at the time. If you find me in NYC, I will most likely be in black pants and a dark shirt. But for example, in Summertime in Capri, I love breaking out the light linens.

Where is your favourite place to travel to?

Over the years, I have been lucky enough to travel and explore so many beautiful destinations. It's hard to choose just one place. My top three favourite places to travel to would have to be: Iceland, St Barths, and the Greek Islands.

What is the best advice you have ever given?

I have to give a shoutout to my father. He always told me, "do what you love" and I have always stuck to it. Since the age of 12, I have always had a camera in my hand. I fell in love with capturing unique moments, telling stories and exploring the world as much as possible.

Through photography and directing, I have been able to do this and I am always excited for what lies ahead.

What are you up to right now?

There are a few exciting projects in the works but unfortunately, I am unable to share any details - you will have to stay tuned!

New York – a relatively young city by world standards – has a lot going for it, including more than 100 illustrious museums, 24,000 restaurants in Manhattan alone and of course, some pretty famous inhabitants. In its short life, it’s managed to become the undisputed cultural capital of the United States as well as bagging a spot as a leading fashion capital.

And seeing as the Luca Faloni team are big fans of the East Coast metropolis, it was only a matter of time before we took our first steps stateside, to offer our brand of Italian style to the good American public. So, to celebrate our first US store on 386 West Broadway New York 10012, we thought we’d narrow down the endless distractions of the Big Apple and highlight our favourite spots to hit if you’re on a flying visit to the City that never Sleeps.
